                Mami Hayashida, D.M.A.

A native of Tokyo, Japan, pianist Mami Hayashida has appeared as a soloist and as a chamber musician in the United States, Japan and Europe.  She has collaborated with current and former members of the St. Petersburg String Quartet, Chicago Symphony, Montreal Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony and appeared at the Hakuba International Chamber Music Festival and the Hampden-Sydney Music Festival among others. 

Dr. Hayashida is currently is an Associate Professor of Music at Georgetown College in Georgetown, KY.  She also keeps a private studio of middle and high school students.  Her former and current students have received various prizes and recognitions at local and state-level competitions and festivals and have been accepted to leading music schools in the country, including IU Jacobs School of Music.  She has adjudicated more than fifteen competitions and festivals in the recent years, including the Dayas/McElroy/Bauer Piano Competition at the College-Conservatory of Music (Cincinnati), Gallaher Competition at Morehead State University, and the Mountain State Senior Piano Competition (WV). 

Dr. Hayashida has received B.M. in Piano Performance and B.A. in History and Philosophy of Science from Oberlin College.  Since then, she has studied at the Hochschule für Musik in Frankfurt, Germany, and Indiana University, where she earned her master’s degree. She completed D.M.A. at the University of Kentucky in 2007. Her teachers include Monique Duphil, Herbert Seidel, Jean-Louis Haguenauer, Cliff Jackson, and Irina Voro.

The pianist Ekaterina Aktı performs a wide repertoire of composers such as Bach, Handel, Soler, Scarlatti, Beethoven, Chopin, List, Grieg, Saint-Saëns, Rahmaninov and Prokofiev. She has performed solo programs throughout Russia, and taken part in concerts in St. Petersburg, Dimitrovgrad, Damask (Syria), Vilnius, and Vysahynas (Lithuania). Ms. Aktı has also performed with the Orchestra of Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre, the Orchestra of Folk Instruments of Ulyanovsk Philharmonic Society, the orchestra of Folk Instruments of Ulyanovsk musical college, the brass band «Derjava», Ulyanovsk State Academic Symphony Orchestra “Gubernatorsky”, and Antalya State Simphonic Orchestra; performing in orchestral tours in Poland, Finland, Sweden, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Hungary, Holland and Denmark.

Ms. Aktı was a finalist in the regional competition of young pianists of South Kuznets Basin (2000) in the city of Novokuznetsk, and was a laureate of the regional competition of pianists in Kemerovo (2002). In May 2006 she received the title of laureate at the International competition of pianists “XXIst Century Art” in Kiev (Ukraine). Ms. Aktı has also performed as a soloist with Ulyanovsk State Academic Symphony Orchestra “Gubernatorsky”,  the Ulyanovsk State Philharmonic society, and with the Antalya State Simphonic Orchestra.

Ms. Aktı has worked as professor of piano, organ and harpsichord at the Musical College and Ulyanovsk State University, and is currently a professor of piano at the Antalya State Conservatoire.

Raleigh Dailey is an internationally recognized jazz pianist, composer, scholar, and educator, who has performed widely throughout the United States, North and South America, Europe, and Asia.

 

In 2002 he was selected to perform at the 3rd Annual International Martial Solal Jazz Piano Competition in Paris, France. He is the pianist and staff arranger for the DiMartino/Osland Jazz Orchestra as well as the pianist and composer for the Osland/Dailey Jazztet. The Jazztet has performed most recently at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and the North Sea Jazz festival in Rotterdam, Holland.

Dailey is in high demand as a composer and arranger; his works have been performed and recorded by numerous college, university, military, and professional jazz ensembles. His most recent chamber works are the Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Piano and Conversations for Trombone and Piano. He also was the recipient of the Al Smith Fellowship for Musical Composition sponsored by the Kentucky Arts Council. He has published articles in IAJE Research Papers, The Encyclopedia of Appalachia, Saxophone Journal, Jazz Improv Magazine, Music Reference Services Quarterly, Notes, and Teaching Music Through Performance In Jazz.

As Associate Professor of Jazz Studies at the University of Kentucky, Dailey currently teaches courses in jazz piano, jazz improvisation, and small and large ensembles. Under his direction, the Jazz Ensemble, Lab Band, and Jazz Combos have performed nationally at various jazz festivals, including the International Jazz Education Network Conference. His most recent recordings are What Happened Next by the Raleigh Dailey Trio and Measure From Zero with trumpeter Peter Evans, both on his own label Llama Records. Other recent CD releases include a duo recording with Rui Li and a CD by his free improvising ensemble raleighllama, and new set of solo piano pieces (Dreams for Piano).
